No autocad presentation skill/mode at this stage. However in rare case where such mode is the part of requirement of topic it will be appreciated.

Stage V [100 marks] Preliminary Design = 13 April (submission by 4 pm) VIVA VOCE= 14 & 15 April 2009, 9:50 am

You are expected to incorporate all issues in design after the conceptual design stage.
Following is to be included in the design process:
1. Site planning involving site sections pertaining to urban design aspects, zoning, FAR etc; functional disposition in spatial terms.
2. Architectural programming in terms of structural and services; interrelationships and unity in design need to be worked out.
3. Evolution of structural grid, functional grid as the case may be.
4. All sheets, sketches in the design process taking off from conceptual design should be presented.
5. No discussion regarding validity now. You are free to assume certain data and project decisions which become crucial at this stage of design.

There is no extension permissible for the stage IV; so all of you are expected to present design criteria, scope and final area requirements of thesis topic. However, parameters of design concept can be initiated in the discussion who have gone ahead in this matter.
Everyone's thesis topic is different, what is expected of each student in the scope of thesis is also different, so we will consider your options in what you give in your viva voce.

Conceptual design stage-marks 50

The two stages, i.e stage IV and V now combined and read as stage IV, has been rescheduled, now it is to be submitted at 4 pm on 23 rd March, the viva voce will follow on 24 th March and 25th at 9:50 hrs sharp.

You should have worked out the final area requirements and design criteria in consultation with your thesis guides. During the viva voce we shall be concentrating on the conceptual design mainly.

It will be open viva voce in the seminar room around the central table. We will prefer to see the concept on sheet, however use of laptop is also permitted in rare cases.

*Site Analysis, using photographic/graphics methods for presentation, urban design aspect, zoning, FAR, site coverage, set back lines etc if these parameters exist.

*Case studies of areas which are directly related to your topic in parts or whole.

*Programming/ requirements infered from the case studies and one available directly from the client brief.

You are required to study case examples from any source available (library and internet) to meet the objectives and validity of your thesis topics in light of the discussions we had at the synopsis stage.
It should finally give in to concept formation and conducting the case studies. The focus is leading to research on architectural component of the thesis.
